Imaginative Fiction - Dragon Stories completed!
A big well done to everyone in Year 4 for completing their first unit of English work this term!
Everyone has written a fantastic piece of fiction about dragons incorporating many of the new features we have been studying over the past 3 weeks to upscale our writing:
Grammatical Word Classes to help with vivid description
nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs
Co ordinating conjunctions to help link 2 main clauses (sentences) together to make our writing flow better
e.g. and, nor, but, or, yet, so, for
Subordinating conjunctions to help link a main clause and a subordinate clause to make our writing flow better
e.g. because, when, while, before, after, if, although
We understand how the order of the main clause and the subordinate clause can be flipped.
Adverbial phrases of time to improve the description of when the action in our stories is taking place
e.g. early one morning, at twilight, when the moon went to sleep
Some of the young writers have started to become more confident in using similes (the description of something that compares it to something else), personification (attributing human qualities to an inanimate object), metaphor (when a word or phrase is linked to something else as a statement of fact but in reality cannot be true) and alliteration (the use of the same sound at the beginning of 2 or more words).
