20th November 2017

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 11:49am

We have had another hard working week this week in Year 5 with lots of new concepts and learning.

In English we finished our persuasive arguments to persuade the girl not to steal from the lady. There have been some outstanding arguments with special mentions to Megan, Hannah and Areka for their excellent arguments that not only flowed but included modal verbs, semi-colons, hyphens and subordinating conjunctions. I have been so impressed by how the book has impacted on your language choices with phrases such as "strength of heroes" and repetition and alliteration creeping into your own work. Excellent!

In Maths we have been looking at using the bus stop method for division and also measuring angles with a protractor. Both of these skills proved a challenge to most as it was a new concept so we will re-visit them and need to keep practicing this at home too using mathletics, active learn and maths playground. Special mentions go to Chloe and Lewis for their excellent angle work and Harry for his perseverance with the division work. Well done!

It has been a great week for Science with us designing our own experiment to investigate the impact parachute size has on air resistance. We also made predictions and tabled the results to draw conclusions. Excellent effort was shown in this area by Finn and Marianne with great use of technical vocabulary and super reasoning by Gabriel and Reuban.

Please keep going with Mathletics and Spellodrome. Our class came second in the whole school points scoring battle so well done! Special mentions go to Sebastian, Aidan, William and Holly for participation and effort. Keep it up!

Well done all on your great mapping this week using Atlases and also coding in ICT to create your own games.
