Our Vision for English

At St Mary's, we see English as a means of communication. It allows children and adults to communicate with each other and to understand others. We believe that fluent and accurate reading is one key to independent learning which directly affects confidence and self-esteem, and contributes towards the school’s mission to enable children to grow in confidence to reach their full potential. Reading and Writing are essential skills for learning across all areas of the curriculum and beyond.
