Fourth Week

Date: 28th Sep 2017 @ 8:17pm

This week has been another busy one in Year 5.

In Art we have created our own Picasso abstract self portrait using photos chopped up and also water coloured background and pastel markings.  These were a great hit and I had no idea we had such budding artists!

Within our creative writing, we began planning our own evacuee stories using a story map.  We then listened to an air raid siren and the announcement of war by Neville Chamberlain to recreate the feeling and emotions the children would have been feeling.  Afterwards, we made a Diamond 9 of our favourite WOW words and put them in show stopping sentences.

In maths, we then went on to use the shop keepers method (counting up on a number line) to work out change from various items that we "purchased" and added together using column addition.

History also provided great learning opportunities this week when we watched a DVD showing a local lady (Mrs Jones) experiences as a child during the war.  We learnt all about rationing and how child were allowed extra oraanges! We can't wait to write our questions to ask her next week. Thank you Marianne and mum for your help in organising this.

All of this along with our welcome mass, special languages day session and Macmillian fundraising cake afternoon!

Special mentions of the week go to Taylor for her extra homework and Matthew, Daisy and Ellie for their high scores on Spellodrome.  Also, to Liam and Lewis for extra effort in French and Isabel and Holly for their amazing contribution to Writing club.  Thank you all!
